What is a Jr Ranger?

Learning outside is so much fun. Ranger Scott from Table Rock tells these children how the mountain got its name long ago from the Cherokee Indians that once lived there.

The Junior Ranger program for the South Carolina State Park Service was formed with one main goal in mind: getting children outdoors and enjoying State Parks! State Parks are fun, beautiful, and exciting places where families can spend time together in a safe and natural environment.

The Junior Ranger program is geared for children from 6 to 9 years old, but it is open to children of all ages (even grown-ups!). All of the activities are designed to get children outdoors and learning about the state’s wonderful natural and cultural resources. So, do you think you’d like to be a Junior Ranger for the South Carolina State Park Service? If so, read about Becoming a Junior Ranger and see how to get started!

We hope to see you at a South Carolina State Park soon!

Did you know that Native Americans lived in our state when the first English colonist arrived?
